Thank you for attending the assembly yesterday to discuss the plans for the next term and a half. As I mentioned, we are currently arranging individual intervention programmes for any Y13 who fell significantly below their target grades. These will be issued to begin after half term and we will email students identified as needing support.
I also mentioned some summer activities for each year group in the form of a festival-themed prom for Y13 and an activities day out for Year 12. We will email out Survey Monkey questionnaires in the next week so please do respond so we can gauge demand and preferences.
Remember - we have a term and a half to make a difference to your future.
Please read all notices below:
We are starting a regular after school 'Study Lounge' for KS5. You will be able to access IT1 every evening from 3.20 - 5.00pm to revise, complete homework and consolidate your learning. For some students, this will form a compulsory part of their intervention programme.
Y13 Apprenticeship Morning
The Year 13 students who have decided to either follow an apprenticeship route or want to keep their options open with both a UCAS and apprenticeship application will be taking part in a preliminary preparation morning on Thursday 14th February. Selected students will be emailed to confirm, but any Y13s who are interested can request to participate on Thursday by emailing Melissa.
Helping Your Child to Succeed Evening
On Thursday 28th February we have invited Y13 parents to attend a series of workshops designed to support you as you embark on your A Level exams. The event will run 6pm-8pm and email invitations have already been issued.
BAE Systems Apprenticeships
For any Y13 interested in working for BAE Systems in areas like software engineering, electical engineering, welding, finance, aircraft maintenance, mechanical engineering from intermediate to degree level, see apprenticeship vacancies here, with a deadline of 28th February : https://www.baesystems.com/en/our-company
Any of you interested in cyber security should take a look at the government initiative below aimed at 14-18 year olds. It is an online course in four parts designed to give you an introduction to the different areas that fall under the umbrella of cyber security. It would certainly be a valuable thing to include on a CV or UCAS application if you have completed the course. www.joincyberdiscovery.com
Y12 Nottingham University Experience Day
We have been invited to bring a selection of Y12 students on a University Experience Day on 30th April. Students will participate in a number of activities and really get a chance to see what university life is all about. The event is free of charge and we will be inviting students we think would benefit the most. It is a fantastic experience to put on university personal statements and really shows universities you have done your research.
We will be awarding 2 Winner of Pizza Awards (WoPA) per fortnight. The winners will have been nominated by staff (or other students where relevant) for exceeding expectations in terms of effort, work rate, kindness, attitude. The winners will be able to enjoy their Domino’s pizzas at lunchtime on Friday 18th January. They are:
Clara (Y13) for her dedication to Annie! rehearsals and netball training whilst still successfully maintaining commitment to her studies.
Maya (Y13) for a really impressive mock exam performance and excellent attitude to learning.
Please put your orders in with Melissa by Wednesday 13th February at the latest.
Have a lovely weekend.
